Hi, I’m Astrid, an Estonian-born surface pattern designer living in Normandy, France. Wife, mom of two wonderful daughters, and dog mom to Jazz, who’s usually asleep under the table while I work.

Every pattern starts the same way, a story and planning before I even start to sketch. I am inspired by something I noticed in nature or in an ordinary moment that felt worth keeping, and from there I paint it by hand in watercolor, gouache or digitally, never AI, never clipart or vectors. Everything is made by a real person, me.

I’m self-taught, and I keep learning through other artists and mentors, and I draw as much from nature as from the artistic movements I love, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Arts & Crafts, Chinoiserie, and a touch of modern, abstract influence, because I like the freedom it brings.

Loomwell, a family-owned wallpaper company in the US, already trusted a handful of my patterns enough to put them into production, and that still means a lot to me, because it’s proof that this slow, hand-made way of working has a place.

When I’m not creating patterns, I’m probably on the tennis court, doing Pilates or yoga, or making something else with my hands, like painting porcelain and sewing.

Creating patterns is how I bring a little warmth, joy and story into people’s homes, one design at a time.
